Block 13: Night Shift

Block 13: Night Shift is a first-person psychological horror and deduction game set inside a deteriorating Soviet-era apartment building. You work as the night guard, checking every person who asks to enter. Some are real residents. Others are shapeshifters using stolen identities. Each visitor presents a passport, but a matching document does not prove that the person is human. You must compare their identity, belongings, answers, and personal history before making a decision. Press the green button to admit them or the red button to refuse entry—but one mistake ends the night.

The Passport Is Only the Beginning

Start by inspecting the visitor’s passport and noting their name and apartment number. Next, find the corresponding resident in your journal and read every available detail. Shapeshifters can produce convincing documents, so do not approve someone simply because their face and passport appear correct. The real mistake may be hidden in a number, possession, or explanation that conflicts with the resident’s profile.

Examine What They Brought

Visitors may place a keychain, letter, book, receipt, or another personal item on the tray. Inspect it and ask whether it makes sense for the person standing outside. A key may belong to the wrong apartment, a receipt may show an unexpected location, or a letter may contradict something recorded in the journal. Even a small inconsistency deserves further investigation.

Verify Their Story in More Than One Way

The phone and intercom provide separate ways to test a visitor’s claim. Call the supplied number and listen carefully to who answers. Use the intercom to ask questions, then compare each response with the journal and physical evidence.

Follow a Consistent Checking Routine

A reliable investigation can follow this order:

  1. Inspect the passport.
  2. Check the resident’s journal entry.
  3. Examine every belonging on the tray.
  4. Call the listed phone number.
  5. Question the visitor through the intercom.
  6. Review any contradictions before choosing a button.

Later shapeshifters may answer questions correctly while carrying an item that exposes the disguise. Never rely on a single clue, even when the visitor appears completely convincing.

Face Seven Increasingly Difficult Nights

Block 13: Night Shift includes seven nights and ten residents with individual histories to learn. Procedurally generated encounters can change who appears and which evidence must be checked, giving repeat attempts some variation. Later stages introduce special shapeshifter encounters known as Echo, Forger, and Mimic. These boss-type visitors are designed to test whether you have developed a complete investigation routine rather than depending on one familiar sign. Ten unlockable achievements provide additional goals beyond reaching the final night.
